Archeological Findings Project By: Samantha Wojnowiak Allison Stevens Stephanie Soppe

Artifact #1 We think that these objects are either things that children would use in school or that they are musical instruments. Archeologists believe that these objects were used in a granary and the used it as scales and weights. It tells us that they wanted to know what things were heavier than others, just like we need to know what things weigh now too.

Artifact #2 We think that this is called the Great Bath and that they filled this up with water to bathe in it. Archeologists think that they used this to most likely bathe, because there was a drain that drained out all of the dirty water. This shows us that back then they still took time to bathe and keep themselves clean.

Artifact #3 We think that the statue was a famous leader and that the necklace belonged to him or her. These artifacts are made by artisans or craft people and archeologists think that they represent a priest or king and the beaded necklace was worn by or represented the statue. That they honored their leaders, just like we honor famous sport players, presidents, and celebrity’s today.

Artifact #4 This looks like it is a decoration or wall painting. It could also be their writing and drawings they use to communicate. These are some of the most mysterious artifacts from India. Archeologists don’t know exactly what these mean, but they think that they are either used for tags on items you can buy or they were worn by the people to keep evil away. It tells us that they had tags on items in stores to tell how much an object is. Like we do in stores today.

Artifact #5 We think that the circle is a well, that they got there water from. This is a sewer system, and they had pipes running through their streets and the pipes carried their waste and dirty water. This shows us that they disposed their waste and dirty water. And that they didn’t reuse their dirty water.

Artifact #6 We think that this may be a street and then there are people homes that are on the sides. Like apartments. These are their homes, just like we guessed. Also the smaller homes belonged to the poor people and the larger homes belonged to the rich people. This tells us that they lived in homes kind of like the ones we live in today, because their homes look like apartments.

Artifact #7 We think that these are games that they played. Because the squares look like dice and the circles look like marbles. These are pieces from some of the games they played. Archeologist think that they invented chess because they had a game that was like a miniature version of the chess we play now. This shows us that they played games in their free time just like people do today.

Artifact #8 We think that this is a clay sculpture of oxen pulling a cart with a person in it. But we don’t know why they would make this This is two bulls pulling a cart and a person, this actually resembles trade. This shows us that they traded a lot and honored it. They also honored the bulls and oxen that pulled them in their carts.
