1 Series and Parallel Circuits Use the hyperlink below to answer the questions about electric circuits. http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/science/add_ocr/electric_circuits/parallelandseriesrev1.shtml 1.Draw a labelled diagram of a series and parallel circuit. Each circuit should contain 2 bulbs, 1 switch and 2 cells. 2.What piece of equipment is required to record the current in the circuit? 3.How does the current vary in a series circuit? 4.How does the current vary in a parallel circuit? 5.What piece of equipment is required to record the voltage in the circuit? 6.How does the voltage vary in a series circuit? 7.How does the voltage vary in a parallel circuit? 8.What happens to the 2 nd bulb in each circuit if you unscrew one bulb.

2 Electricity and the body Electric signals travel through our nervous system, controlling our heart, muscles and brain. Sometimes, these signals do not work properly. Defibrillation 1When does someone need a defibrillator? 2What does a defibrillator do? 3How does a defibrillator work? Use these search engine terms: defibrillate, heart attack. Electrocardiograms An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a medical test that helps doctors find out why someone’s heart is not beating in a regular rhythm. 1When does someone need an ECG? 2What does an ECG tell doctors? 3How is an ECG taken? Use the search engine term: ECG.

3 Electric cars Most cars burn fuel – petrol or diesel – to run their engine. Electric cars use a battery to run the engine instead of fuels. Use the Internet to find out about electric cars. List at least 5 advantages and 5 disadvantages of electric cars, compared with fuel-driven cars. Put them in order, putting the advantage or disadvantage that is most important to you first. Include some pictures of electric cars and the technology that is needed to make them work.
