1 Welcome to Otterwood Not Mrs Hawkes or Mrs Phillips but …

2 Our topic for this half term is set during the Victorian period and is called ‘Beaulieu Then and Now.’ Queen Victoria!

3 We shall be using ‘Street Child’ as a guided reading text with groups and I shall be reading ‘Chimney Child’ to the class.

4 Reading Every child has a library paddle and is encouraged to read and change their library book frequently. Our library is open for parents to come in, discuss and help choose books with their children every Wednesday morning until 9:00 am. We have Guided Reading sessions in class every day and children are asked to read at home frequently with an adult. Every child has a reading record that can be signed by an adult every time they are heard reading and in to which comments, suggestions and ideas can be noted down. We shall be continuing with our ‘Closing the Gap’ initiative, where children partner with others from across the school and read together on a Tuesday afternoon.
