8. 8 Cub Scouting is a Family Program ● Family involvement is vital to Cub Scouting's success. ● Cub Scouting considers a boy's family to be the people with whom he lives. ● Cub Scouting gives families an opportunity to spend time together.

9. 9 Joining Requirements ● Grade: A boy must be in (or entering) the first through fifth grade (or be 7, 8, 9, or 10 years old). ● Parental consent: A boy must have the written consent of his parent or guardian. ● Registration: A boy may register with the pack of his choice by paying the registration fee. ● Application: A boy and his parent or guardian complete the Application to Join a Pack.

10. 10 Parent Requirements (Your role as Akela) ● Read the Parent Agreement in the Application to Join a Pack and agree with stated principles: – Support your son in joining the pack and assist him in observing the policies of the Boy Scouts of America and the pack – While he is a Tiger Cub, serve as his adult partner and participate in all meetings and approve his advancement – While he is a Cub Scout, help him and approve his Cub Scout advancement – While he is a Tiger Cub, Cub Scout, or Webelos Scout, attend monthly pack meetings and take part in other activities; assist pack leaders as needed. 22. 22 Miscellaneous Points ● Pack uniform: Fully badged uniform shirt are required. Dark pants (preferably navy blue) are part of the uniform. Scout caps and socks are optional. ● Scout store: Currently the closest one is the council store in Waterbury. People driving by help pick things up. ● All awards are supplied by the pack, funded by fundraising. ● Two deep leadership: All meetings and events have at least two leaders or a leader and a parent.

25. 25 Scouting Organization ● Boy Scouts of America national office provides overall policy and program support – Councils serving specific geographic areas provide program support and administrative help The State of Vermont is served by the Green Mountain Council ● Districts within a council provide training, events, and programs and are run by volunteers We are in District 6, “Land of Champs” – Units within a district are Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and Venturing Crews and are run by volunteer leaders who work directly with the boys to provide the program
