Homedale High School… has been awarded the Go On Grant for the 2012-13 school year! On behalf of the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation, congratulations on being chosen one of 27 elite Go On schools. We’re excited because we believe your team is ready to go to a whole new level and create a support system and culture at your school that will help all of your students Go On to education or training beyond high school.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE GO ON GRANT? To provide resources and equip schools and the community to effectively support, counsel, guide and/or mentor all students so they can “Go On” to higher education and/or training beyond high school.

Completing the “Go On” Schools Request For Proposal (RFP) was the first step. This step was completed April 7 th, 2012.

FUNDING THE FUNDING The Go On grant is a one-year renewable grant based on demonstrated improvement, The Go On grant is a one-year renewable grant based on demonstrated improvement, as identified by the plans schools submit. Schools were awarded between $10,000 and $40,000. The amount of funding was based on how well the proposal met the scoring criteria. Schools were awarded between $10,000 and $40,000. AIM HIGH HOMEDALE HIGH SCHOOL & THE GO ON MESSAGE… Every student can and should Go On to some type of post secondary education or training (e.g. technical school, university, community college, military, etc.). MAKE A PLAN INDICATORS Indicators 1: Students who use the CIS portfolio (or other career planning software) as a planning, personal development and career exploration tool in the classroom and with their counselor. GET READY Monthly College and Career Information nights provided for parents in dual languages. (Spanish and English). College and career information, FAFSA, scholarship and financial aid help and assistance. College and career fair visits financed for freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors. (Transportation costs).

GET READY INDICATORS Indicator 1: Parents/students attending training regarding academic and financial planning including the development of a financial plan to pay for postsecondary education. Baseline: 25%, based on Class of 2012 parent financial aid attendance nights. Indicator 2: Students who have been exposed to campus visits to colleges and /or technical programs, business and/or career field trips, or college/career guest speakers at school. Baseline: 75%, of the entire school population.

GO ON Increase concurrent and AP credit offerings. Offer ACT/SAT prep classes through IEN for all juniors Pay for the cost of the PLAN test for sophomores. Provide supplementary curriculum in the three core subject areas (math, science and English) to provide the extra support and rigor necessary for the college readiness vision. Embrace a school wide literacy program with reading materials made available to students which encourage college and career readiness preparation, leadership and character development, autobiographies, biographies, non-fictional “how to’s” and online books to inspire and prepare students for the Go On vision.

GO ON INDICATORS Indicator 1: Percentage of students reaching the college readiness scores on college entrance exams. (Class of 2012). Baseline ACT: Benchmark Percent: English: 42%, Mathematics, 26%; Reading 29%, Science 12%. Indicator 2: Students enrolled in postsecondary education by the fall after graduation (National Student Clearinghouse, Class of 2010, most recent data). Baseline: 58% Indicator 3: Students who are “concentrators” in at least one Professional-Technical Education (PTE) Program of Study. A PTE Program of Study is a series of courses in sequence from the foundation course to intermediate courses to capstone course). “Concentrators” are students who have completed a Program of Study. MATERIALS/ CURRICULUM ENGLISH English Department 10 th, 11 th 12 th Grade: A list of recommended readings from the ACT research On Coursework for Success would serve as a guide for the book list. The teachers would purchase student copies of books. Student copies for honors classes, dual credit and AP courses will be given priority. The Go On vision would help launch a school wide literacy program with reading materials made available to students which encourage college and career readiness preparation, leadership and character development, autobiographies, biographies, non-fictional “how to’s” and online books to inspire and prepare students for the Go On vision.

PLAN TEST SOPHOMORES Sophomores will take the PLAN test to help determine how they will do on the ACT test. IEN CLASSES IEN network courses are being considered as a viable option for enhancing advanced course offerings. 3 IMPORTANT STEPS… 3 IMPORTANT STEPS… TO RECEIVE YOUR FUNDS AND REGISTER FOR THE GO ON SUMMER INSTITUTE ON TUESDAY, JUNE 5TH AT BOISE STATE UNIVERSITY. Step One… Step One… You will receive an email from Foundation grants coordinator Rachael Rutledge, which will contain your award letter and grant agreement. Please sign and return (email) the grant agreement by Friday, May 18th. Step Two… Step Two…Select four members from you Go On team and register them for the Summer Institute at https://secure.meetingsystems.com/GoOn/. One person can register the entire team or you can send the link to the four members of your team. Important: Your Summer Institute team must include: 1) an administrator, 2) counselor/staff responsible for college and career readiness, 3) educator, 4) other (optional: school board, student, parent, or community member). https://secure.meetingsystems.com/GoOn/
