2 Everyone’s a Leader  Leadership is not a position  Leadership is not about power  Leadership is not about following someone  Leadership is not about causing fear  Leadership is not about giving orders LEADERSHIP CAN BE LEARNED!

3 Everyone’s a Leader What is Leadership Leadership is the ability to inspire confidence and loyalty so that others follow willingly in order to achieve a desired goal.

4 Everyone’s a Leader What are the 3 types of leaders Autocratic – One person has all the power and makes all the decisions. –Closely supervises the group –Never lets others have a say –More interested in getting the job done than in respecting others feelings.

5 Everyone’s a Leader Democratic Leader- All of the people are involved and help in the decision making. –Allows the group members to express their ideas and opinions –Always listens to others –Supervises only as needed, allowing individuals to use their own judgment. –Is considerate of the feelings of others.

6 Everyone’s a Leader Loose –rein ; Laissez-faire- very little control by the leader. Allows the people to do “their own thing” most of the time. –This style works well with responsible people who like to work alone. –This style may not work well if a number of decisions must be made in a short time.

9 Everyone’s a Leader Communication Communication is a critical element of leadership It is not only the method that you use to communicate, but the way in which you deliver the communication.

10 Everyone’s a Leader Effective communication is not only effective speaking, but effective listening. Keep in mind there is always…. What was said what the listener heard What the speaker thinks they said

11 Everyone’s a Leader Teamwork Expectations  Cooperate with others  Participate  Build trust  Recognize shared goals and results  Establish formal and informal linkages with other people  Share and give credit  Demonstrate confidence in others
