THE QUALIFICATION As part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), based on new occupational standards, the new qualifications now have a single unit (Unit 1) devoted to knowledge, containing vital information about the principles and practice of good-quality assessment. There are other units to reflect the verity of assessment roles that increase and acknowledge flexibility in the way vocational achievement can be assessed and demonstrated. By working through a combination of these units the Learner (Trainee Assessor) can gain an award or certificate in different forms of assessment.

HOW MANY UNITS FOR CAVA? YOU NEED TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING UNITS UNIT ONE: UNDERSTANDING THE PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF ASSESSMENT (3 CREDITS) UNIT TWO: ASSESS OCCUPATIONAL COMPETENCE IN THE WORKPLACE( 6 CREDITS) UNIT THREE: ASSESS VOCATIONAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING (6 CREDITS)

HOW THE UNITS ARE ASSESSED? UNIT ONE: THROUGH YOU SHOWING YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING BY ANSWERING QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS IN THE WORKBOOKS. UNIT TWO: BY ASSESSING CANDIDATES IN THE WORKPLACE AND HANDING IN WORKPRODUCTS SUCH AS OBSERVATIONS, ASSESSMENT PLANS, QUESTIONS YOU HAVE ASKED YOUR CANDIDATES. YOU ARE OBSERVED FOR THIS UNIT. YOU NEED TWO CANDIDATES. UNIT THREE: BY ASSESSING CANDIDATES IN A LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AND HANDING IN WORKPRODUCTS AS ABOVE. YOU ARE ALSO OBSERVED FOR THIS UNIT. YOU NEED TWO CANDIDATES.

WHY HAVE THESE QUALIFICATIONS IN ASSESSING? These qualifications have been developed as a result of the revised national occupational standards (NOS) for learning and development, which reflect current practice in learning and development, and describe what a person needs to do, know and understand to carry out their role in a consistent and competent manner.

THE QCF UNIT STRUCTURE All QCF units are structured in the same way, as follows: Unit title: this tells you what the unit is about Level: this describes the level of difficulty Credit value: this tells you how many credits the unit is worth Learning outcomes: these tell you what you are expected to know, understand or be able to do Assessment criteria: these specify the standard you must meet to show that you have achieved the learning outcome

THE CREDIT VALUE The credit value tells you the average time it takes to achieve the learning outcomes and assessment criteria within each unit. Learning time means more than just the guided learning hours (GLH); it includes all time required (what you do) to achieve the unit, such as practicing, researching, assessment/contact time and working through workbooks. One credit is equal to approximately ten hours of learning. Meaning a unit with a credit value of 3 could take an average of 30 hours to complete.

WHAT YOUR ASSESSOR DOES- MAKE SURE YOU ARE GOING THROUGH YOUR LEARNING MATERIALS OBSERVE YOU WHEN YOU ARE READY WITH YOUR TWO CANDIDATES FOR THE UNIT PLAN HOW THE ASSESSMENTS WILL BE CARRIED OUT HELP YOU AND SUPPORT YOU ASSESS (TEST) YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICE
