5 Graduate School Requirements:  Minimum requirements include, but are not limited to:  36 credits total 18 graded UW credits at 400 and 500-levels 18 UW credits at 500-level +  Cumulative 3.0 GPA  Grade of at least 2.7 in all courses that will count towards above requirements You must be enrolled the quarter that they wish to complete the degree

6 College of Education Requirements At least 45 credits of upper division (300-level inside or outside of Education) & graduate coursework (400/500-level in Education) Remove any “X,N, or I” grades from transcripts by completing courses, when those courses are required for program 2.7 GPA in all courses used to satisfy M.Ed. requirements Fulfillment of culminating thesis, non-thesis, exam, and/or other area requirements

8 Completing your Degree Step 1: Request your Master’s Degree from the Graduate School  Submit a Master’s Degree Request online: http://grad.uw.edu/for-students-and-post-docs/mygrad- program/ http://grad.uw.edu/for-students-and-post-docs/mygrad- program/ Deadline: Last day to submit a Master’s Degree Request to graduate at end of Spring Quarter – June 3 rd before midnight. This step can be done starting the first day of Spring quarter. We strongly encourage you to do it by April 15 th.

Forms - http://education.uw.edu/my-coe/current- students/forms/master-education-formshttp://education.uw.edu/my-coe/current- students/forms/master-education-forms  Tips on filling out the boxes: Degree = Master of Education (M.Ed.) Area = EDC&I, EDPSY, EDLPS, EDSPE Study Option = (Your specialization)  Turn in completed and signed form to Office of Student Services (Miller 206) by May 20 to graduate this Spring.

10 Completing your Degree Step 3: College of Education Course of Study Form  Fill in with all of the courses that you have taken and will take to meet degree requirements  Indicate any courses that have been petitioned with an asterisk (*)  Meet with your faculty advisor to review & sign your form  Turn in completed and signed form to Office of Student Services (Miller 206) by May 20 to graduate this Spring.  Give copy to advisor as well.

11 Culminating Activities 0 Options differ depending on your study area: 0 Exam (Written; 4 hours)- May 20 from 9-1 pm 0 Thesis (EDUC 700 & Oral Defense)- Register for at 9 credit hours 0 Non-thesis (ED*** 600/601 & Oral Defense) 0 Project 0 Internship 0 Special Assignments 0 Portfolio & Presentation Meet with your advisor early to decide which option is best for you and create a plan for how you will complete the requirements for your chosen option.

12 Additional Requirements for the Thesis Option:

13 A copy of the proposal needs to be turned in to the Office of Student Services Coursework: EDUC 700 (at least 9 credits) Format considerations: Review the Graduate School’s Guidelines: Oral Defense Upload Thesis to the Graduate School Upload Committee Approval Form

14 Plan Early & Be Aware of Deadlines!  For thesis & non-thesis projects, your first draft deadlines (to your advisor & reader) will be due early to mid-quarter. Work out these deadlines with your advisor.  See Dates/Deadlines handout  Check in with Certification Coordinator if you are in a program leading to certification and/or endorsement  Exam Dates for Spring:  Written exam: Friday, May 20, 2016- Register by May 6  Oral defense: (schedule with your advisor)

15 Graduation and Commencement Ceremonies:

16  If you plan to graduate in Spring or Summer 2016 you can participate in the College of Education Graduation Ceremony and Reception: Saturday, June 11, 2016, 9:30a.m. – 11:30 am, in the quad outside of Miller Hall  You can also participate in the UW Commencement Ceremony: Saturday, June 11, 2016, 1:30 p.m., Husky Stadium  Note the important dates and deadlines on the handout, or find more information at:  https://education.uw.edu/node/10019 https://education.uw.edu/node/10019  First date this week!
