11. Parts of Speech Our speech is made up of words. Each word has a special job.

12. Parts of Speech (POS) Every word is a specific type of POS. The type of POS depends on its job. Some words change their POS, depending on the job in each sentence.

15. Nouns A noun can be the subject that does the action or the object that receives the action. 1. The player fumbled the football again. 2. Brian threw another interception during the game. 3. The fan pointed to his heroes with much pride.

16. Nouns Concrete nouns: can be seen, touched (field goal, football) Abstract nouns : cannot be seen or touched Include events, ideas, feelings
