DWG Wind Profile Review November 11, 2014 Dan Beckstead Associate Staff Engineer

2 Stakeholder initiated review of TEPPC’s process of selecting solar and wind profiles Ensure that TEPPC assumptions for these resources would capture the expected performance as seen by historical data To identify possible areas of discrepancy between the CFs used in TEPPC studies and expected performance Goal of Performance Review

RESULTS 13 January 2012PowerPoint Sample 3 Note: Size of zone proportional to total zone potential, not just wind

4 In the 2005 NREL wind dataset there is sufficient NREL profiles to meet historical capacity factor goals for most areas without sacrificing locational diversity Future wind sites will use the same 2005 dataset and NREL provided CF targets to meet expected wind performance throughout WECC Common Case Profiles

5

6 Duke Energy, NREL and WECC staff will work together to investigate the possibility of creating new NREL profiles for use in the TEPPC 2014 study program. o Needs buyoff from NREL o Approval from TAS o Capital cost could be an issue DWG Recommendation
