3  Plone survey ◦ Collect; name, course, postcode & email (optional)  Also collect country information ◦ Students have to sign in to access the survey ◦ Emailed to students and advertised on Blackboard  30 students had signed up within a few days  110 out of 250 students have now signed up!

4  Export survey data to Excel  Step-By-Step Guide Step-By-Step Guide  Once created you receive an email with; ◦ A unique URL to your map ◦ A unique URL to edit your map

5  From the edit map URL you can change; ◦ The title and description of your map ◦ Add more data  To add new data; ◦ Update the Excel spreadsheet ◦ Copy and paste the new data as per Step One ◦ Follow the same steps as before

6  Students had the option of choosing their home or place of work postcode  Option to make the map private or public ◦ Map is not shared with anyone else if made private  URL of the map is unique  URL of the map only published on Blackboard ◦ Only accessible by Museum Studies staff & students

7  Still some teething problems to iron out ◦ Staff time to update the map and frequency ◦ How and when to remove students from the map ◦ Whether to keep alumni on the map ◦ Postcodes problem – now solved!  But, huge benefit to DL students  Helps to builds a sense of community  Detailed ‘How To’ guide available  Questions?
