1 Aim: Express greetings and farewells and words of politeness in Spanish.

2 When greeting someone it is customary to shake hands. Many people also exchange a kiss on the cheek or a hug. The greeting changes with the time of the day.

3 Hola.

4 Buenos días is used in the morning.

5 Buenas tardes is used in the afternoon and early evening.

6 Buenas noches is used at night.

7 Despedidas=Farewells

8 Adiós

9 Hasta mañana means “until tomorrow”

10 Hasta luego Means: “see you later”

11 HASTA LA VISTA! See you soon!

15 If you want to find out someone’s name you can ask:

16 ¿Cómo te llamas?

17 To answer that question you say: Me llamo _________ (My name is ______)

18 If you want to find out a person’s name you don’t know you can ask someone:

19 ¿Cómo se llama? “What is his or her name?”

20 “Encantado” which is one way to say nice to meet you!

21 Boys: You have to use the form: Encantado

22 Girls: You say “Encantada”

23 You can also say “es un placer” which means “it’s a pleasure”

24 Or you can say also “Mucho gusto” which means “Nice to meet you”

25 You can respond to “Nice to meet you” also by saying: “El gusto es mío.” which means: The pleasure is all mine.
