3 The Regional Educational Laboratory Program Bringing together research, policy, and practice Partner with school districts, state departments of education, policymakers, and others to conduct research and build capacity to use data in order to improve academic outcomes. Contract with the Institute of Education Sciences at the U.S. Department of Education. 3

4 REL Southwest Goal: Improve academic outcomes for students. –Help states and school districts systematically use research and data to answer important issues of policy and practice. –Partner with research alliances to develop a research agenda and conduct research. –Provide technical assistance related to the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data and evidence. –Connect education researchers with practitioners. 4

7 Alliance Purpose and Goal Partner with researchers and education practitioners to improve Hispanic student success in STEM. Identify factors affecting Hispanic student preparation for and achievement in K-12 STEM subjects. Increase state capacity to use data and research to support Hispanic students’ entrance into and advancement in STEM K-20 education and careers. 7
