Progress report of TFG 7 “Fire resistance test” Mar. 3rd, 2016 Korea Transportation Safty Authority (TS) Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute (KATRI) Seul-ki Lee, Senior Researcher UN ECE / WP29 / GRSP/ 10 th EVS Informal Meeting in Tokyo

Korea Transportation Safety Authority Open issues TF7 will find the solution for the equivalency of two short duration fire resistance test. All members are asked to submit their opinion to TF7 (Action Item #10) Canada and US will come up with draft proposal for adding additional criteria for short duration fire resistance test (Action Item #11) ☞ Canada Presentation China will provide technical data or justification for small buses to TF7 (Action Item #12) ☞ China Presentation 1/6

Korea Transportation Safety Authority 6 th face to face meeting (Tokyo Japan, Mar. 3rd 2016) 1.Short duration fire resistance test : phase 1 Long duration fire resistance test : phase 2 ☞ Agreed 2. Verified an equivalency of LPG burner and Gasoline pool ☞ Agreed 3.Test options - Component level test - Vehicle level test ☞ Under discussion Gasoline pool fire LPG burner fire Gasoline pool fire LPG burner fire 2/6

Korea Transportation Safety Authority Gasoline pool fireLPG burner fire Compo -nent level Vehicle level Proce- dure Pre-heating 60sec, direct exposure 70sec, indirect exposure 60sec -Ignite with certain amount of gasoline -No temperature concerned time to reach 800 ℃ (less than 30 sec), exposure 120 sec at 800~1100 ℃ -Repeatable and reproducible test -stable temperature ※ Test options 3/6

Korea Transportation Safety Authority 6 th face to face meeting (Tokyo Japan, Mar. 3rd 2016) Korea presented test result of heat flux equivalency of LPG and gasoline. US and Canada prefer to LPG burner test rather than gasoline in terms of fuel. No vehicle fire test recommended. Short duration test is not sufficient to cause explosion. Therefore, Contacting Party’s option is suggested. Japan accept equivalency of gasoline and LPG. Requested to add information of integral heat flux ☞ [EVSTF-10-29e(rev.1)] 4 optional tests are acceptable. China has no preference of fuel. Vehicle level test need to be considered further. EC agreed the equivalency of gasoline and LPG. Relevance of 2 minute exposure needs to be clarified. If the objective is to prove that EVs are equally safe as ICEs then 2 minutes criterion is acceptable. Otherwise EC does not see any occupant safety specific concern within the given timeframe. OICA is acceptable for LPG. But consistency with R34 should be considered. Vehicle level test should be necessary in an aspect of protective structure from the vehicle. Korea propose to LPG burner just as a component level currently. LPG burner test in vehicle level is needed to consider further regarding to detailed procedure. 4/6

Korea Transportation Safety Authority Schedule for drafting GTR - Propose and circulate GTR draft with EVS IWG members by Korea ☞ 30 th March -OICA provides proposal for the vehicle level LPG test parameters ☞30 th April - Feedback on GTR draft from EVS IWG members ☞ 30 th April - Submit GTR draft, 27 th May ☞ 11 th EVS in Washington D.C 6/6
