ABOUT THE PRESENTER Carla Hulce is a former senior program associate with the American Institutes for Research. For more than 20 years, she has consulted with schools, districts, and states to implement successful turnaround and transformation services. 3 ABOUT PIVOT Founded in 1995, Pivot Learning Partners is a nonprofit organization of K-12 education experts working shoulder-to-shoulder with schools, districts and charters to address their biggest challenges. We partner directly with more than 90 school districts, touching over half the counties in California and impacting the practice of thousands of educators, ultimately reaching more than 1,000,000 students. Our partners primarily serve heavy concentrations of high-need students, of whom 58 percent live in poverty, 79 percent are children of color, and 57 percent are non-native English speakers.

Building a Comprehensive Solution Prevention and Intervention Support Model Not a new initiative Everything is on the table The whole child

Building a Comprehensive Solution Prevention and Intervention Support Model  Common Core State Standards  Individualized Behavior Supports  Community Schools  Social-Emotional Learning  Family Engagement  African-American Male Achievement  Credit Recovery  Student Personalized Learning

MTSS Tiers Tier 1 describes the high quality teaching and school support for positive behavior that all students in the school receive. If what the school provides at the tier one level is working, most students in the school will be successful without needing additional help. Tier 2 describes the additional interventions that smaller groups of students might get if they need extra help to learn specific skills. Tier 3 describes interventions that are designed to help individual students who need the most extra help on specific skills. Students who are receiving tier three level help might need this level of help for a short time or for a longer period of time to be able to catch up. Any student in the school may, at some point, need tier two or tier three help in order to learn all the necessary skills of their grade level. Where does Common Core State Standards belong? How do you build the Tiers?

Building an MTSS model How would such a model address the needs of Jorge? Video

What lingering questions do you have; is this construct valuable for you; is there something missing, etc.
