Riyaad-us-Saliheen Patience Taught by Br Wajdi Akkari Commentary of Shaikh Ibn Uthaymeen Lesson 6

Verses  "O you who have believed, endure and have more patience..". (3:200) Regards to Jihad - Have more patience than your enemy  "And We shall surely test you with fear, hunger, loss of wealth, souls and fruits, yet give glad tidings to the patient". (2:155)  "Verily, only those who are patient will be given a reward without reckoning.'' (39:10)  "And whosoever is patient and he forgives, verily, this is from the things Allah has recommended'' (42:43)

 "Seek aid in patience and prayer. Verily, Allah is with the patient.'' (2:153) 'Allah being with' is of two kinds, General which encompasses everyone (what we understand from “He is with you wherever you may be”) There is in no private conversation of three but that He is the fourth of them, nor are there five but that He is the sixth of them - and no less than that and no more except that He is with them [in knowledge] wherever they are. (58:7) This is a general kind of being with – through His authority, hearing, seeing. Allah will aid them or is with them in terms of Ruboobiyah (the Lordship) Ibn Taymiyyah: To prevent ta'weel we are supposed to take it as it is Allah can be above his creation and be with an individual and there is no contradiction – going back to the statement there is nothing like Allah When we recite Surah Fatiha in Salah Allah responds to everyone this would be impossible for humans but not for Allah Dua of prophet when travelling – O Allah you are the companion during travel, and the one who protects the family left behind – this would not be possible for people either We have to avoid anthropomorphism – understanding Allah with human characteristics Verses cont.

Ma’iyal-khasa Entails aid and victory that Allah will grant – only for the Messengers and their followers Verily Allah is with those who have Taqwa and those who are good-doers And Allah is with the patient They do not entail or necessitate that Allah is with the creation. Do not say Allah is everywhere – dangerous – whoever denies Allah is above the heavens has disbelieved. Musa said, “My Lord, show me [Yourself] that I may look at You.” [Allah] said, “You will not see Me, but look at the mountain; if it should remain in place, then you will see Me.” But when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He rendered it level, and Moses fell unconscious. - earth would be destroyed due to his Greatness. Allah is the light of the heavens and earth – why is there darkness? Saying Allah is everywhere would include evil places – no proof for exceptions... from Quran or Sunnah Commentary cont.

They fear their Lord who is above them The prophet spoke when up in Isra wal Miraj Arabic We have been marching and the moon is with us – not necessarily – I’m with you Arab saying: ‘Suhayl (a famous star) is with us’ – in the sky. Then, what about the creator – he has risen high above the throne and he encompasses us all No matter how secluded you may be Allah encompasses you in his knowledge, ability, authority, hearing, seeing and other than that Verily Allah is with the patient - Will receive aid from Allah till he attains patience beloved to Allah Commentary cont.

 "And We shall surely test you, so we may know those who struggle amongst you and those who are patient'' (47:31) In order for Allah to know so Allah will know..... Jabariyah – forced no free will - injustice Qadariyah – Deny Qadr - Some think Allah doesn’t know what happens until it happens Do you not know Allah knows everything that is in the Heaven and the Earth – and is written – Lawh-ul-Mahfudh Whoever claims that Allah does not know have rejected this Ayah Allah knows about it but it has to materialise for the punishment/reward to be given The knowledge of Allah of something before it happens – does not affect the person Allah will test them with the event and once they have done it then the reward/punishment becomes a consequence So we may know.. means knowledge which necessitates the reward (good or bad) Jazakallah– in Hadith could be good or bad, therefore must add ‘Khair’ Verses cont.

● Some - What is intended is knowledge becomes apparent ● The knowledge of Allah regarding it before it occurs is different to that of after it has occurred ● If a person says I’m going to do it tomorrow – you know their intention. Then once he has done it you have a different knowledge ● Two ways of ‘Ulama Commentary cont.

● A mujahhid is the one who exerts his effort to make the word of Allah most supreme ● Includes ulama, weapons – not going out for dawah ● Knowledge – the one who learns knowledge and spreads it amongst the people in order for Allah’s legislation to be established and firm ● The one who fights the enemies of Allah ● Only with the intention for Allah’s legislation to become supreme ● SurahAal Imran - The sabireen are those who are patient concerning that which has been delegated to them and carry out their task and fulfil it Commentary cont.
