3 Using source and your own knowledge. Occurs:Paper 1: Section B Value: 6 marks Wording: ‘Why was the poster published …? Use the Source and your own knowledge to answer the question.’ Marks Scheme: Level 1: simple description/reasons for poster (1-2 marks) Level 2: Either: explanation of context of poster using knowledge; Or: explanation of appeal or nature of the propaganda; (3-4 marks) Level 3: Both parts of Level 2. (5-6 marks)

4 Interpretations Occurs: Paper 1: Section B Value: 8 marks Wording:‘Do you agree with the interpretation given in the source about…?’ Explain your answer by referring to the purpose of the source as well as using its content and your own knowledge.’ Mark Scheme: Level 1: accepts source at face value (1-2 marks) Level 2: simple explanation based on provenance or knowledge (3-4 marks) Level 3: agrees or disagrees based on developed explanation of provenance/use of knowledge. (3-4 marks) Level 3: developed argument about the usefulness/limitations of the source using specific knowledge and/or source evaluation. (5-6 marks) Level 4: developed argument based on specific knowledge and source evaluation. (7-8 marks)

10 Mark Scheme Level 1: simple statements (1-2 marks) Level 2: EITHER: Develops one bullet point – describes (3 marks) explains (4 marks); assesses (5 marks) OR: Describes/explains both bullet points (3-5 marks) Level 3: develops both bullet points and begins to establish an argument (6-8 marks) Level 4: assesses both bullet points and makes a judgement based on relative assessment.
