9 RF TEST AREA IN SM18 10/12/2013Mathieu Therasse CERN BE/RF9 New cryogenic distribution in SM18 since Marsh 2013 Vertical test stand (cavity test) 4.5K measurement - 1x long H = 4m for spare LHC cavities - 1 xshort H = 2.4m for HIE-ISOLDE 2K measurement - 1 Long H= 4m - 1 short cryostat H = 2.5m Both are equiped with: - Welded connection - Integrated pumping - Active screening - Earth Magnetic field compensation Horizontal test stand (cryomodule) 2 Bunkers M9 Currently dedicated to the LHC cryomodule testing M7 LINAC 4 CCDTL structures testing

10 2K LONG CRYOSTAT (4m) 10/12/2013Mathieu Therasse CERN BE/RF10 - Equiped for long cavity (ex: SPL 5 Cells cavity) 4m cryostat - New Cryogenic Instrumentation and control - New RF control Currently used for the SPL and Crab cavities tests This may lead to a conflict between these 2 activities (preparation, tests…)

11 2K SHORT CRYOSTAT (2m50) 10/12/2013Mathieu Therasse CERN BE/RF11 Was used for the resonator test (surface resistance studies) Currently not used Why not use it for crab cavities? Needs - Modification of the insert (new support, refresh the cover, instrumentation installation…) - New RF control (a copy of V3) - New Cryo instrumentation, control and process - Commissioning of the cryostate with the new cryo line - Manpower (difficulty to find available persons with LHC LS1, LHC restart in 2014 and the other projects)

12 BUNKER A CRYOMODULE TESTING 10/12/2013Mathieu Therasse CERN BE/RF12 Bunker A Status: - 4.5K and 2K measurement - Design of the interconnection valve box is not yet defined - Hard or Flexible connection has to be defined CCDTL Dismantling old lines Tests planned: - Linac 4 RF structure test Makes use of the existing 352 MHz power system & rad. safe bunker (the 1 st CCDTL is still in testing) -SPL SPL cryomodule testing in 2015

13 BUNKER B CRYOMODULE TESTING 10/12/2013Mathieu Therasse CERN BE/RF13 Bunker B status: -4.5K and 2K measurement with flexible or hard connections (we have the choice) -A temporary valve box was installed for the test of the LHC spare cryomodule -The interconnection valve box should be delivered mid of 2014 (O.Pirotte) (ref: Cryogenic Upgrade of the SM 18 - RF Horizontal Test Facility https://edms.cern.ch/comment/1312586/0.3)ttps://edms.cern.ch/comment/1312586/0.3 Tests planned: -LHC Spare cryo modules tests - HIE-ISOLDE cryo modules Test should begin in late 2014 Tend to flexible connections

14 Very crowded area: Cannot be significantly extended (unfortunately) Installation of additional power source + associated power distribution system to be studied in details…but look rather complicated! RF POWER ZONE 14 Equipped with: Demineralized cooling water 100 kV, 40 A power converter 400 MHz, 300 kW CW LHC power system 352 MHz, 1.2 MW pulsed power system (1.6ms/2Hz) - Later a 704 MHz pulsed power system will be installed (1.6 ms / 50 Hz) 10/12/2013Mathieu Therasse CERN BE/RF

15 15 RF CONTROL TEST STAND 10/12/2013Mathieu Therasse CERN BE/RF Vertical test stand V3 and V4 V3 - Automatic program measurement (Q(E), f(T)…) and acquisition data (cryo, RF…) - Old PLL boxes adapted for the 400MHz and 704MHz cavities are used - Planned to redo a complete LLRF system V4 we have to refurbish the RF control for the cavity testing (we can do a copy of V3 test stand) Bunker test stand M9 and M7 M9 -Is equiped for the LHC cryomodule testing (RF control, LLRF system…) -The preparation for the HIE-ISOLDE cryomodule is on going. -Has to be prepared for the Crab cryomodule (if we choose M)) M7 Has to be prepared for the SPL and the Crab cryomodule testing (RF control, LLRF system…)

16 DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS 1610/12/2013Mathieu Therasse CERN BE/RF Oscillating Superleak Transducer (OST) - Under development (Benedikt Peters) - Tested with the Crab cavity Localized hot spot (default) with 2 nd sound propagation in He superfluid method Optical inspection (from KEK) Will be adapted to the Crab cavity (with a new support) (S. Mikulas)

17 AVAILABILITY FOR CRAB CAVITY 17 Cavity tests: Currently, Crab cavities are tested in the long cryostat with SPL cavities Possibility to use another test stand (need of manpower) More flexible and efficient (preparation and tests) Cryo-module tests: Power source is ok (400 MHz, 300 KW) Bunker A: Design of the interconnection box has to be defined Need to install a new power distribution Complicated (no space), we have to study this in detail Bunker B: Crab Cryomodule connection has to be defined (flexible or hard) Manage with LHC and HIE-ISODLE cryomodule testing 10/12/2013Mathieu Therasse CERN BE/RF
