Non- Fiction Text

 Writing a reflection for a non-fiction text is the exact same as writing a reflection for a fictional text, so you will only have to learn one method of reflection for this class

What is the meaning of ‘reflection?’

REFLECTION means to look back on an event or action that occurred in the past and think about how that event transpired, and how you feel about that event now that it is over or in the past

 The skill of reflection is virtually the same when writing about what you read. After you finish reading, you reflect on a text by talking about what you think and how you feel about any part of the reading selection. You could reflect on  An event that transpired  Character development  The relationship between characters  Plot structure  The beginning or end of a book

 Your reflection will not be complete unless you explain WHY you feel or think the way you do  For example, instead of simply saying “I think what Brian did to Jamie was mean,” you should instead sat “I think what Brian did to Jamie was mean because she did nothing to deserve such cruelty  In essence, you’re explaining why you think Brian was so mean to Jamie

 In your reading response, you should explain how you feel about a portion of the book AND what you think about a portion of the book  When you explain how you feel, you’re talking about an emotional reaction to the book  When you talk about what you think, you’re talking about a logical reaction to your book  You will be able to write a more complete and detailed response if you talk about feelings and thoughts  Reflections should only be about parts of the book that you already read. Otherwise, you’re writing a prediction  Be as detailed as possible when describing your reflection. This is a reading response where you want to be as descriptive as possible!
