Short Term Supply (STS) NQTs Significant changes from September 2012 STS teachers can undertake induction a session at a time What is a “Session”? – defined by ‘pupil attendance’ Must be the ‘specified work of a teacher’, so cover supervision does not count. ALL sessions must count, but you do need to ‘log’ them in 2 ways (more later) If you are employed for a contract of more than 10 days, then schools ADVISED to register you as under their support External mentors (EM) allocated after 180 sessions (more later) STS need to signpost evidence against each of the 55 areas of the practicing teacher standard. NO prescribed ‘Portfolio’ but an Induction Profile to log evidence against. (more later on collecting evidence).

GTCW Web System NQTs should also maintain evidence of the number of sessions completed towards induction in their induction profile. Access to important information during induction As set out in the Welsh Government guidance there are a number of parties involved in the teacher’s induction. These parties will need to view and exchange specific information in relation to the teacher’s programme. The information will include the NQT’s induction employment details and the number of induction sessions completed. GTCW has developed a web based system which will enable the collation of this information and minimise duplication and bureaucracy for all involved. The NQT, and the NQT’s school, External Mentor and Appropriate Body, will, with the appropriate authorisation, be given secure access to this system to view and update as necessary. GTCW will provide details of how to access this system within the written acknowledgement to the NQT following receipt of the initial induction notification.

Documenting EVIDENCE of meeting PTS
28
This section records evidence of how you meet each of the PTS. Against each standard you should indicate the evidence that exists of how you have met the standard. Entries should be brief and may signpost to where the evidence exists. The record should be progressively completed throughout your induction period so that evidence is recorded as it occurs. You may update your evidence at any time if, for example, you wish to refer to evidence that you consider to be stronger than that previously recorded. Section 3 – Documenting Evidence
30
EM Role for STS (Induction) Will both support and evaluate through – Visit to advise on collection of final evidence – Visit for a lesson observation with agreed criteria and feedback, based on progress towards meeting the PTS Make a recommendation to LA (EAS) on whether you meet the PTS and should pass your NQT year.
