2 UK Youth Employment: The Facts 895,000 ILO unemployed under-25s, down 79,000 on the quarter 30% of those are full-time students. Excluding those, the figure is 618,000 (a fall of 71,000) Under-25s unemployed and not in full-time education are 8% of the youth population, compared to 12% in 1993 and 13% in 1985 Eurostat (Dec 2010) data on harmonised youth unemployment rates for 15-24y/os shows the UK rate is slightly lower than the European average.

3 UK measures targeting youth investing in flexible, personalised employment support, apprenticeships, work experience and training an Innovation Fund for delivery partners Raising the participation age for education Increased PES adviser support for 16-17 year olds

4 The role of partners Delivery organisations, in particular those in the voluntary and community sector, can use their knowledge to develop solutions to help disadvantaged people Govn is providing a new £10 million per annum Innovation Fund that will give delivery organisations, in particular those in the voluntary and community sector, a real chance to develop innovative solutions to help disadvantaged people.

5 Reducing barriers Ensuring basic skills needs are met Early intervention: additional support for 16/17 year olds a reduction in bureaucracy associated with Apprenticeships to encourage take-up launching sector-based work academies to provide training and work experience followed by a guaranteed job interview
