Equivalence of CIPAC MT Methods – Do Different Versions of a Physical- chemical Test Methods Lead to Similar Results? Dr. Burkhard Wiese (BCS) and Dr. Markus D. Müller on behalf of DAPF 58 CIPAC Meeting, 25 June 2014 Liège, Belgium CIPAC 4961/R

Do Different Versions of a Physical- chemical Test Methods Lead to Similar Results? Answer: it depends... – need to check! Possible sources of information: CIPAC Decisions, Minutes of CIPAC TC, „Bedside Book“, Minutes of DAPF Meetings (German Speaking Formulation Panel), expert knowledge...
3
Revisions of CIPAC Methods Fundamentally positive: to meet new development in technology and to better characterize formulations Downside: might cause problems in the acceptability of a physical-chemical data package by some registration authorities still requiring test being done with previous MT method versions.
4
Typical examples of reasons for MT method revision MT 47.2 47.3: harmonization of equipment (commercially available cylinder) MT 159 186: introduction of automated version MT 15, 161, 168 MT 184: consolidation of methods with same analytical principle MT 171 171.1: error correction …and in many cases standardization of water type (CIPAC D), test temperature (25°C±5°C)...!
5
Is information on equivalence of MT Methods accessible to the outside world? Yes, rather limited: decisions, „review of MT Methods“ No: Minutes of TC, Bedside-book, DAPF Minutes...
6
Proposal/Recommendation An excel synoptical table on equivalence/non- equivalence of CIPAC MT Method versions be drafted by DAPF and presented at 59th CIPAC Meeting in... CIPAC taking note of the table, it could be published on CIPAC.org This would facilitate easy access to information re equivalence/non-equivalence of CIPAC MT methods
