1 Strategies & Knowledge for Independent Learning ‘SKIL is an initiative that aims to develop a pupils Independent Learning skills in a positive learning environment, primarily outside the classroom.’ SHOWING YOU HOW TO LEARN EFFICIENTLY & EFFECTIVELY.

3 IT SHOWS YOU STRATEGIES FOR: 1.REVIEWING SUBJECT KNOWLEDGE 2.APPLYING KNOWLEDGE 3.REVIEWING MARKED WORK 4.MEMORIZING & REMEMBERING THEY REALLY WORK!!!!!! (ALL METHODS HAVE UNDERGONE RIGOROUS TESTING IN THE FIELD AND HAVE BEEN SHOWN TO BE EFFECTIVE – INDEPENDENTLY VERIFIED!)

7 Strategies & Knowledge for Independent Learning SKIL SKIL is designed to provide you with instructions on how to learn independently regardless of the subject you are studying. Just follow the instructions on the cards. SKIL SKIL cards each contain a list of easy instructions on how to carry out different effective learning strategies. They can be accessed in a number of different ways. SKIL During SKIL sessions hosted by your subject department. SKIL During Open SKIL sessions. On Moodle by following the ‘Independent Learning’ tab at the bottom of the home page. Displayed on the wall in common study areas. Given by your teacher. They can be used for: Individual learning Learning in study groups Learning in friendship groups Learning at home Learning in study periods Doing homework For tasks in class SKIL SKIL You can gain certificates to show & celebrate the effort and achievement you put into developing your SKIL by providing evidence outlined in this and other cards. Once you have collected all the evidence return it to your SKIL coordinator or Dr. Ravetz. There are three certificates to collect: Bronze Silver Gold SKIL You can also go one step further and become a SKIL mentor and gain the Platinum & Platinum Plus certificates. BRONZE CERTIFICATE EVIDENCE Name: _______________ Form: __________ Once complete return the card to: ______________________ with your collected evidence.

8 Bronze Bronze Evidence needed: SKIL The use of seven different SKIL cards. Evidence collected: Examples of evidence: G3 – A copy of the sheet produced. G6 – A copy of the questions answered and marked. i3 – A copy of the clock sequence generated. i6 – Pieces of paper containing the chunks of answers. M2 – A copy of acronym developed M6 – A written description of the journey and information SKIL For other SKIL cards you can use similar types of evidence. SKIL Include the evidence with this card and record the identification number of the SKIL cards you have used below:
