She has developed a system that allows her to get all the narcotics she needs to feed her addiction from health care providers. Shelly goes to 6 different doctors, and is a regular patient at several local emergency rooms. Each doctor prescribes a narcotic for Shelly’s chronic pain, not knowing that she is also receiving narcotics from other area physicians. What might be done to assist Shelly, and to alert her physicians of how they are contributing to her addiction?
