Nowaday, I am reading ‘Frankenstein’,retold from the Mary Shelly. This fiction is such a story that a man heard one youth’s passion, creation and sadness from the creature, as I read. I read about, or over a half of entire story. I summarized the story I read. Today I would love to tell my summary that I summarized until chapter 10 to you.
4
On the trip journey in Arctic what entirely had gone terribly, Captain Robert Walton saw Frankenstein who had floated on a piece of ice. Then Frankenstein boarded on the ship as a man convinced, and talked with Robert. Frankenstein was almost frozen and in a terrible condition, also pale and thin. He fainted, and as he woke up, he talked with Hardy and Robert.
5
While they talked, Frankenstein wandered about the monster, and often cried with outburst. After they talked and he apologized to Robert, he began to talk about his story.
6
As he told in his own words, Frankenstein’s family came from Geneva. His father had goodness, and a dear friend named Beaufort who was miserable. After Beaufort was dead, Frankenstein’s father took care of Caroline-who was a daughter of Beaufort- and married two years later. When the family visited Lake Como, Caroline fell in love with Elizabeth at once and agreed that Elizabeth came to live as a part of family.
7
Frankenstein and Elizabeth spent every moment together, and often joined by their friend, Henry Clerval. Also Frankenstein was a serious child with a very busy mind. He wanted to learn everything and anything. As he grew older, he fell deeper and deeper into his studies, and amazed by modern science. He cared only making a great discovery, and focused on electricity.
8
Years passed and they all grew older. One day, Elizabeth became very sick with scarlet fever, and they were ought to stay away from her. Though the doctor took good care of Elizabeth, the scarlet fever took a hold of Frankenstein’s mother, and she was gone. As Elizabeth said, Frankenstein left for Germany. He became completely alone.
9
As arrival in Germany, he got introduction of the university by Professor Krempe. Frankenstein would be with Professor Waldman. Frankenstein’s first lesson began with the history of chemistry. He raced his minds, and setted his fates that he would find the truth behind the world’s great misteries. As he spoke to Waldman, he was willing to learn anything and everything he needs to know to be a great scientist.
10
He experienced the Professor Waldman’s laboratory. That day decided his destiny.
11
For the next two years, school was his whole world. His progress excited Professor Waldman. He finished school knowing that his education was a success. After he had done his school, he decided to stayed in Ingolstadt between choices. After a lot of thought and hard work, he discovered he could give life to lifeless matter. It made him to exclaim and flew his imagination.
12
He devoted all of his time to his work. His cheeks grew pale from spending too much time inside, and his body grew thin because he wasn’t eating enough. The time slipped, and the seasons turned to another. He knew his family was excited with him. He hadn’t sent them a letter in months. Also, he didn’t care about them. Soon, he thought one evening. “ Soon he will be alive. ”.
13
One day, Frankenstein’s creature moved. It meant he became alive. Then Frankenstein cried with misery and regret. He thought it had all gone so terribly wrong, and felt horror. He hadn’t seen that the creature was so ugly. His limbs were the right size, but his watery, pale eyes were awful. His yellow-looking skin barely covered his muscles and veins. His hair was black, even flowing, and his teeth were white and pearly-but his lips were thin and black. –according to the story(p.38)
14
He finished the creation, the glory of his dream disappeared. His heart filled with horror and disgust. Then he rushed out of the lab and went to bed. He saw the creature was standing above him when he woke up, made a noise like an attempt to speak, and grabbed Victor. He ran away into town and visited his dear friend, Henry Clerval. They had happy days. Since one day, he had been sick all winter.
15
He doubted that Henry knew his lab, and realized it’s not true. He got a letter from Elizabeth.
16
In her letter, Elizabeth begged him to write home. And she wrote what have she done to Victor’s father and with brothers. He enjoyed every words in the letter. He also wrote back to her at once, so put the letter in that day’s post. Two more weeks later, he was able to leave. Henry started school within a couple of days, and they spent the summer with reading and studying together.
17
Frankenstein would love to go home to Geneva in the fall, but because of the poor weather, he had to stay Ingolstadt for the season. Henry and Victor traveled around for two weeks, it made Victor’s heart and lungs good. They walked and talked, also got back to school on a Sunday afternoon. They met only cheerful people on the road back to Ingolstadt. His spirits flew. There was a spring in his step. His heart was full of joy. (from the part of the story ; p.53)
18
A letter he got from his father contained bad news ; There is no easy way for me to tell you this, but your brother william is dead. Tears sprang to his eyes. His father begged him to come home in the letter. Everyone spent the night looking for william.... No one said anything, but they all feared something terrible had happened to poor William. It was an awful night for Elizabeth, my father wrote. In the early hours of the morning, my father discovered my brother. His worst fears had come true. My brother was no longer life. (According to the part of the story ; p.55)
19
His father also wrote Victor was the only person who could help Elizabeth through that hard time. Elizabeth had taken the news harder than any other member of the family-she thought it was her fault. Then he quickly packed a bag and went to Geneva for three days. He went through the city gates and Lake Geneva by boat. At once, he knew it was the one who was guilty, and alone took William’s life. It was the cursed monster.
20
Victor heard Justine, William’s nanny, has been accused and is in jail since last night by Ernest. And he wandered. He also talked with family members and Elizabeth.
21
The trial started at eleven o’clock that morning. Justine discussed she is innocent in the court. Several townspeople spoke up next. They thought she was guilty. Next, Victor’s father and Elizabeth spoke. Victor’s father told the court how well Justine had served his family. And Elizabeth’s speech moved many in the audience. After jury’s voting, the bailiff announced that Justine was guilty.
22
Frankenstein felt a great sense of despair. Justine was sentenced to spend the rest of her life in jail. Elizabeth collapsed and cried. Nothing could remove the pain in his soul. He wanted to be alone, and hiked through the Alps to make himself feel better.
23
The next morning, Frankenstein hiked Alps. He was happy and felt wonderful. Then, suddenly, he met the monster that the creature he gave a life. They argued. The monster wanted Frankenstein to love him and warned him. Frankenstein still refused to do for his creature. As the creature turned and started back across the glacier, Frankenstein slowly followed him across the ice. He hated it, but he owed it this much-he would listen to his story.
