3 WARM UP List as many jobs or careers as you can in 1 minute.

4 A turning point can be defined as the point at which a significant change occurs, usually a change for the better. This change for the better can occur in an individual’s life, it can take place in a family, an organization, or a nation.

9 LISTENING PRACTICE We will watch the trailer for a documentary in which a young man decides what he wants to follow in an unusual way.

11 DURING LISTENING QUESTIONS As you watch the documentary, answer the following questions: How many different jobs does Sean work? What are 5 of the jobs you see in this film? Why does Sean decide to go on this adventure? What advice is given about finding a job?

12 ONE WEEK JOB How is it possible to discover your passion ? Would you do the same as Sean? In North America, people can change their college majors or their careers if they are not happy or satisfied. Is this true or your culture?

13 SUMMARY PRACTICE WRITE 5 SENTENCES ABOUT SEAN’S VIEW OF FINDING A JOB. USE 4 NEW VOCABULARY WORDS IN YOUR SENTENCES. What is Sean’s turning point? Does he change his mind, or change directions, at all on his journey? How does he start out? Are people around him supportive?

15 PRACTICE Write 1 sentence for each “case” of past tense verbs. Switch sentences with your partner. Read each sentence out loud, focusing on properly pronouncing the verb ending.

16 REFLECTION QUESTIONS: 1. HOW DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR MAJOR? WHAT INFLUENCED YOUR DECISION TO STUDY THIS MAJOR? For example: I chose a major in Communications because I took a course that I found really interesting, and I enjoyed studying about human relationships. 2. WHAT CAREER DO YOU HOPE TO HAVE? WHY DO YOU WANT A JOB IN THIS FIELD? I had hoped to get a job in marketing where I would be an event planner for a company. Which I did, but I ended up switching careers soon after!
