2 Are your values different from your parents? Why?

3 At what age do you start to decide what your own values and beliefs are?

4 Who is someone you admire? Do they have the same values that you have ?

5 How do listeners show that they are really paying attention to what you say? How do these responses make you feel?

6 When do you need stress management? What approaches help you deal with or overcome the negative effects of stress?

7 Which are easier to control- internal influences or external influences? Why?

8 What are some specific sources you might turn to for reliable health information? Why do you consider them reliable?

9 How does setting your own goals help you assume responsibility for your own health? Do you think that mature, responsible teens seek help and support in working toward their goals? Why or why not?

10 Interpersonal Skills A. Interpersonal communication is the exchange of thoughts, feelings, and beliefs between two or more people. B. 1. Clearly say what you mean. Use “I” messages. 2. Pay attention to how you say something. Tone of voice, facial expressions and your gestures are part of communicating. 3. Be a good listener

11 C. Refusal skills are communication strategies that help you say no when you are urged to take part in behaviors that are unsafe or go against your values. D. Conflict resolution is the process of ending a conflict through cooperation and problem solving.

12 Self-Management Skills A. Self-management involves taking responsibility for your health and acting in specific ways that promote your wellness. B. Practice healthful behaviors; eat nutritious foods and express your feelings in healthful ways. C. Stress management- ways of dealing with or overcoming the negative effects of stress.

13 Analyzing influences A. Internal influences on your health include your knowledge, values, likes, dislikes, and desires. B. External influences on your health include your family, your friends and peers, your environment, your culture, laws, and the media. C. Becoming aware of these influences will help you to make healthful choices.

14 Reliable sources of health information include parents, guardians, and other trusted adults; library resources; and government agencies.

15 Advocacy is taking action to influence others to address a health-related concern or to support a health-related belief.

16 Setting Personal Health Goals A goal is something you aim for that takes planning and work. -short-term goal -long-term goal An action plan is a multistep strategy to identify and achieve your goals.

17 What is Good Character A. Core ethical values such as honesty, and respect, that are held in high regard across all cultures and age groups. B. Your character impacts all aspects of your health.

18 Demonstrating Good character A. Practice behaviors that have a positive effect both on yourself and on others. B. Make a difference at home, at school, and in your community.
