1 RWANDA EDUCATION BOARD TEACHER DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT COMPETENCE BASED CURRICULUM ROLL-OUT PLAN February, 2016

2 Introduction The Ministry of education, through Rwanda Education Board, has embarked on reviewing its curriculum The aim was to align it with national aspirations and to ensure that knowledge, skills, values and attitudes acquired by Rwandans in schools meet the challenges of 21st century.

3 Introduction (cont’d) The competence-based curriculum (CBC) was launched in April 2015. Its implementation kicked off with opening of the school year 2016. The roll-out plan of the CBC implementation includes training for: Management Stream and Technical Stream. (see the chart below)

8 STEP FORWARD Now that 92 NSTs, 2997 DMASTS and 23,338 SSLs were trained on main changes in the CBC, they are all ready to implement it with ease. Upcoming activities include: Follow up activities across all districts to reinforce the work of School Subject Leaders; Plan phase II trainings that emphasize Competence Based Lessons while phase III in 2017 will focus on assessment ; Establish a roadmap for building the capacity of DMASTs and SSLs in cascading the CBC in form of SBI (from district to school level);
