21. 21 DBQ Facts & Tips Within the free-response section, the DBQ counts for 50% and the other two essays count for 25% each. You have 210 minutes to write the free- response section. That’s roughly 60 minutes for the DBQ and 35 minutes each for the other essays. Handwriting matters!
