2 Overview Goal of this presentation is to: summarize what we are currently providing statewide. explore the needs of local senates and faculty in general. consider strategies to improve statewide, regional, and local professional development activities. brainstorm alternates to in-person professional development. share current plans for the ASCCC Professional Development College. 4 Emerging Needs As budgets have improved, local senates are required to participate more and more such as… Common Assessment Initiative (CAI) Online Education Initiative (OEI) Educational Planning Initiative (EPI) Institutional Effectiveness Partnership Initiative (IEPI) Student Equity Plans SSSP Plans Revised Accreditation Standards Taskforce on Workforce, Jobs, and a Strong Economy Fall Plenary Session November 5 - 7, 2015 Irvine, CA4

7 Alternative Forms of Professional Development In addition to time, there are often costs associated with professional development events that make it challenging for some to attend Are there other ways that we could offer professional development for lower/no costs? Possible options: Webinars with breakout rooms Video Conferencing using Zoom (cccconfernow.org) Recorded ASCCC Presentations YouTube Videos Audio Podcasts Others? 8 Professional Development College (PDC) Modules The Executive Committee is already looking at many additional modules for the PDC. These include Basics of Academic Senates Inmate Education Creating an Inclusive Atmosphere through Better Communication Minimum Qualification and Equivalency Part Time Faculty Orientation Hiring Diverse Faculty What modules would you like to see in the PDC? 9 Summary The ASCCC hopes to make all of its PD offerings the best faculty development available. ASCCC is exploring new ways to offer PD that are more flexible and cost less The Professional Development College will be adding new modules each year that anyone can access at any time As workloads continue to increase, it is important that we offer PD in a way that doesn’t increase burnout.
