3 Inventory Four be the things I am wiser to know: Idleness, sorrow, a friend, and a foe. Four be the things I’d been better without: Love, curiosity, freckles, and doubt. 4 It’s the right thing to do Integral part of collection development Know high-theft areas Find improperly shelved materials Find incorrectly marked items Increase patron success at finding materials Know that things are in the correct place Reconcile catalog and shelf Work is recognizable to those outside of Technical Services

5 1.Determine class to inventory 2.Create a list 3.Print the list and sub-divide into notebooks 4.Students compare item to list 5.Any items that don’t match list go to a librarian for resolution

6 After the list is complete, sort the list by call number

7 1.Limit by location 2.Limit by call number starts with 3.List records 1.Call number from item record 2.Marc tag 245 | a from bib record 3.Volume number from item record 4.Print your list

8 Label each item and keep in order

9 1.Remove items from the shelf and carefully maintain in call number order 2.Verify author, title, barcode, and spine label information 3.If all matches, return to shelf – in call number order

10 1.Problems go to a librarian to resolve 2.Each problem is marked with a post-it indicating the problem On shelf, but not on list Bar code does not match Title does not match Spine label does not match
