3 What is APR? This strategic process involves high-level analysis of non-instructional departments. identify, document and plan for continuous improvement Resources for best practices may include state and national associations accreditation standards program guidelines issued by the Council for the Advancement of Standards (CAS) GOAL: Improve the quality and number of resources available to the department for assessment and internal evaluation, not to find fault.

4 Completing the APR Self-Study Supporting documents will be provided to the administrative department spanning up to five years of data to assist in the completion of the APR Self-Study: Budget & Expense Reports Annual Assessment Reports (OATDB) Institutional Goals and Objectives Organization Charts Others as requested Documents will be transferred via a secured drop box.

5 Status Meetings and APR Support Review of progress on APR Self-Study Review timeline for completion of APR Self-Study Select Peer Review Committee Members Set date(s) for onsite or remote Peer Review Committee visit(s) – (Completed Self-Study is required for Peer Review Committee to begin work.) APR staff will have regular and on-going communication with department to offer assistance during every phase of the review. The entire APR process is expected to span 3 – 6 months.

6 Using a Peer Review Committee Peer Review Committee Role Will review completed APR Self-Study and supporting documents Will visit with administrative department onsite or remotely (conference call) Will complete the APR Self-Study Rubric feedback, comments and recommendations Peer Review Committee Membership 1 individual, External to SHSU 2 individuals, Internal to SHSU (faculty and/or staff not in administrative department) 1 current SHSU student (not in IE or administrative department) APR staff will coordinate Peer Review Committee visit(s).

7 Creating and Using the Action Plan Department will review recommendations included on rubrics and any self-identified areas of need to draft action plan objectives to span 3-5 years. APR will work with the department to set timeline for submission of Action Plan. Action Plan items are intended to be used in annual assessment (OATDB) and will assist the department in defining its strategic plans. APR staff will draft an executive summary describing the APR process to be submitting to University leadership with completed Action Plan.

8 Following Up on the Action Plan Two years after creating the Action Plan, the department will meet with APR staff to evaluate the progress of the Action Plan objectives, make any necessary modifications, and report to University leadership on the status of the continuous improvement efforts. The APR staff will assist the department with any data collection needs, such as the implementation of surveys or other data collection instruments. The APR process will repeat on a five-year cycle.
