D-Day commences on June 6th, 1944 Adolf Hitler commits suicide on April 30th, 1945 Germany surrenders on May 8, 1945 Peace treaty with Japan is signed after their surrender on September 2nd, 1945

3 1939 March – Czechoslovakia surrenders to Germany after threat of invasion August – Soviet Union and Germany sign a non-aggression pact Sept 1st – Germany invades Poland Sept 17th – Soviet Union invades Poland from the East World War 2 Timeline

4 1940 April 8 – Denmark and Norway are invaded by Germany May 10 – France, Holland, Luxemburg, and Belgium are invaded by Germany May 20 – German forces reach the English Channel May 27 – Dunkirk Evacuation of French and British soldiers June 9 – Norway surrenders to Germany June 14 – Germany takes Paris June 22 – France surrenders to Germany July 10 – Battle of Britain Commences Sept 27 – Japan joins the Axis Powers Oct 7 – Germany occupies Romania Nov 20 – Hungary and Romania join the Axis Powers Rescued British troops gathered in a ship at Dunkirk.

6 1942 Jan 2 – Japan occupies Manila Feb 19 – Battle of Darwin April 18 – Doolittle’s raid on Tokyo May 7 – Battle of Coral Sea June 4 – Battle of Midway August 7 – Battle of Guadalcanal October 23 – 2nd Battle of El Alamein November 8 – Operation Torch U.S. Navy Douglas SBD-3 "Dauntless" dive bombers from scouting squadron VS-8 from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet (CV-8) approaching the burning Japanese heavy cruiser en: Mikuma to make the third set of attacks on her, during the Battle of Midway, 6 June Mikuma had been hit earlier by strikes from Hornet and USS Enterprise (CV-6), leaving her dead in the water and fatally damaged. Note bombs hung beneath the SBDs.
