6 Interactive Features There are a number of new interactive features based on feedback provided during the Spring 2010 web conference series. – Attendees Pod allows participants to provide visual cues to the facilitator and presenters – Chat Pod allows participants to talk to each other and submit questions to the facilitator and presenters – Polling Pod allows for a real-time snapshot of implementation concerns and solutions of participants – File Sharing Pod allows participants to download related resources immediately during the web conference

7 Web Conference Logistics To cut down on background noises, your phones are muted. During the web conference, there are several opportunities for participants to interact with presenters and chat with other participants. During the question and answer segments, you have the option to verbally ask a question – or – you may submit a question or comment through the Chat Pod. To verbally ask a question, click on “My Status” at the top of the Attendees box and select “Raise Hand” to let the facilitator know you have a question.

12 Credit Flexibility Senate Bill 311 (Ohio Core legislation) requires local of boards of education to adopt a plan that allows students to earn units of high school credit based on demonstration of subject area competency, instead of or in combinations with completing hours of classroom instructions.

14 Communication of Credit Flexibility Options Requirement Local boards must communicate the aspects of Credit Flexibility (the policy and programs) with students and parents on an on-going basis using multiple communication methods. New Emphasis on LearningNew Emphasis on Learning, pg. 13

15 Communication of Credit Flexibility Options State Expectations: Local boards of education must communicate this provision annually to parents and students. As part of the policy review process, local entities must submit data to the state about the methods and frequency of communication with students and families.

16 Communication of Credit Flexibility Options ODE Guidance: Cost – Schools pay when the course is: Included in the school’s regular program of studies; Needed to fulfill a graduation requirement, honors diploma or other educational need not otherwise provided by the school district; Endorsed and recommended by the school as a part of the district’s regular program of study (e.g. online educational program);

17 Communication of Credit Flexibility Options ODE Guidance: Cost – Schools pay when the course is: Provided to students in traditional classrooms in a similar manner; or Part of the student’s regular class load taken during the normal school day

18 Communication of Credit Flexibility Options ODE Guidance: Athletics Are students using credit flex policy eligible under the OHSAA’s regulations? Yes, if the student: ▪ is currently enrolled and must have been enrolled in school in five full credit courses during the immediately preceding grading period (semester, quarter, six-weeks, etc.).

19 Communication of Credit Flexibility Options ODE Guidance: Athletics Are students using credit flex policy eligible under the OHSAA’s regulations? Yes, if the student: ▪ is “passing” the credit flex course at the end of a grading period in order for this course to counted toward the five one credit (or equivalent) courses used to establish athletic eligibility.

20 Communication of Credit Flexibility Options ODE Guidance: Athletics Are students using credit flex policy eligible under the NCAA’s regulations? ▪ NCAA requirements specifically address the types of learning opportunities available through the credit flexibility policy (e.g. online/distance learning, independent study, one course taught over two years). ▪ Those opportunities must be included in the NCAA List of Approved Core Courses.

21 Communication of Credit Flexibility Options ODE Guidance: Athletics Are students using credit flex policy eligible under the NCAA’s regulations? ▪ The NCAA does not allow “credit by exam” courses to be applied to core course eligibility requirements.
