2 Etiquette: accepted rules of behavior during mealtime What are rules at your house? Why is it important for families to have meals together?

3 Setting the Table Have you ever been confused about the arrangement of plates, glasses, and utensils on a restaurant table? setting the table Except for picnics, most tables are set with individual settings. This arrangement of tableware and flatware is called a place setting or cover.

4 Tableware includes dishes and glasses Flatware includes eating utensils. Each place setting has at least a plate, glass, fork, knife, spoon and napkin. Depending on what is being served other table ware such as a salad plate, cup, saucer, salad fork, or soup spoon may be used. Flatware is positioned from the outside in. An appetizer fork is placed further from the plate than the dinner fork.
