T. Kranz TOA Germany Local Area Network N-8000MI N-8000EX N-8500MS N-8000EX Switch N-8540DS N-8500MS Max. Distance: 100m (CAT5 UTP)

T. Kranz TOA Germany Switch Connecting IP Units inside the LAN  Use a Switch (Layer 2 Switch)!  No Repeater Hub! Switch: Features of Switch: - Enables communication in one LAN (Switching occurs at layer 2 of the OSI Model by processing the MAC-Address)

T. Kranz TOA Germany Local Area Network Which IP-Address-Range can be used? The “Internet Assigned Numbers Authority” (IANA) has reserved the following three blocks of the IP address space for private internets: 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255(10/8 prefix) 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12 prefix) 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/24 prefix) (Source: RFC 1918) Recommended !

T. Kranz TOA Germany Local Area Network e.g. 192.168.0.1/24 DecimalDual IP Address: 192.168.0.111000000.10101000.00000000.00000001 Subnet Mask:255.255.255.011111111.11111111.11111111.00000000 IP-Address and Subnet Mask - IP Address + Subnet Mask is dividing the IP-Address into Network-Address and Host-Address AND NOT → Network-Address 192.168.0.011000000.10101000.00000000.00000000 → Host-Address 0.0.0.100000000.00000000.00000000.00000001

T. Kranz TOA Germany Corporate Network  VLAN / QoS N-8000MI N-8500 N-8000EX N-8500 N-8000EX VLAN 2 Switch N-8540DS VLAN 1 Managed Switch is needed Layer2 using VLAN tag Layer3 using TOS field or DiffServ

T. Kranz TOA Germany VLAN Feature of VLAN IEEE 802.1Q (Abbr. dot1q) - Segmentation of 1 physical LAN into several virtual LAN`s (MacAddress based-, IP-based-, Port-based- VLANs) - Priorisation of broadcast data up to 8 priority levels Typically: Background (BG), Best-Effort (BE), Video (VI) und Voice (VO). e.g. broadcast data is got priority contrary to HTTP Note: Switch/Router must be able to support VLAN

T. Kranz TOA Germany VLAN 802.1Q Managed Switch VLAN1 Prio: Voice VLAN2 Prio: BG Internet

T. Kranz TOA Germany QoS What is QoS -QoS stands for „Quality of Service“ -It is a means to prioritize network traffic, to help ensure that the most important data gets through the network as quickly as possible -QoS works by slowing unimportant packets down -Basically, once your Router is aware how much data it can enqueue on the modem at any given time, it can „shape“ traffic by delaying unimportant packets and „filling the pipe“ with important packets FIRST, then using any leftover space to fill the pipe up in descending order of importance

T. Kranz TOA Germany QoS -Importance is determined by the priority of the packet -Priorities ranging from: Low, Bulk, High or Premium (The number of levels and the exact terminology depends on your Router) -QoS packets may be prioritized by a number of criteria, including generated by applications themselves, but the most common techniques are: - Mac Address - Ethernet Port - TCP/IP Port

T. Kranz TOA Germany QoS Feature of QoS - Stable bandwidth (audio/video) - Monitoring of Delay Time, Jitter, Loss Ratio, Puthrough - 8 priorisation levels e.g. broadcast data is got priority contrary to HTTP Note: Switch, Router must be able to support QoS!

T. Kranz TOA Germany Unicast / Multicast (IGMP) Note: Switch, Router must be able to support Multicast (IGMP) ! Unicast: Transmitter is sending equal data packages to each receiver  high trafficUnicast: Transmitter is sending equal data packages to each receiver  high traffic Multicast: Transmitter is sending data packages only one time. Switch is multiplicating the data for every receiver  reduced trafficMulticast: Transmitter is sending data packages only one time. Switch is multiplicating the data for every receiver  reduced traffic Switch Data packates MulticastData packates Unicast

T. Kranz TOA Germany Corporate Network  VLAN / QoS Use managed Layer3 Switch! Providing:- VLAN - Multicast (IGMP)

T. Kranz TOA Germany Connection via WAN N-8000MI N-8500 N-8000EX N-8500 N-8000EX VLAN 2 Switch N-8540DS VLAN 1 N-8000MI N-8500 N-8000EX N-8500 N-8000EX VLAN 4 Switch N-8540DS VLAN 3 Router N-8000MI N-8500 N-8000EX N-8500 VLAN 6 Switch N-8540DS VLAN 5 WAN Router - Global (fixed) IP-Address - Router with NAPT-Function - VPN-Router (recommended)

T. Kranz TOA Germany Router Features of Router: - Enables communication between different LANs, Subnets & WAN (Routing occurs at layer 3 of the OSI Model)

T. Kranz TOA Germany Connection to WAN Feature of VPN (Virtual Private Network) - Secure Connection between different LAN`s via WAN - Encoded Connection - Most Common Tunneling Protocol - IPSec (others: PPTP, SSL, Open VPN, CIPE) - Authenticity - Hash-based communication  Checksum

T. Kranz TOA Germany Connection to WAN If you want to connect N-8000 via WAN: - Global IP-Address is needed (fixed IP) - Router is needed - NAPT (or PAT) Setting of the Router (NAPT = Network Address Port Translation) - Setup a VPN (Virtual Private Network), recommended Note: Router must be VLAN-, VPN-, NAPT-, QoS-capable Depending on which function is desired!
