2 South Africa 1. Sits at the southern tip of Africa 2. 1500 miles of coastline 3. Mild climate 4. Most of the country is a plateau 5. Large grasslands in the interior a. home to many animals: lions, elephants, giraffes

The marshlands provide fertile land for rice and fish 4. Niger Delta also called the “Oil Delta” contains rich oil supplies

24 Lake Tanganyika 1. Located in central Africa 2. Second-deepest freshwater lake in the world; is also the longest lake in the world. 3. Shared by 4 countries: Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania and Zambia 4. Believed to contain over 200 types of fish

25 Lake Victoria 1. Largest lake in Africa 2. Second-largest freshwater lake in the world 3. Shared by 3 countries: Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya 4. Important because it provides a living for fisherman and tourism

26 Atlas Mountains 1. Run through Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia 2. Separates the Mediterranean and Atlantic coast lines from the Sahara Desert 3. Climate: a. Summers are hot b. Winters bring heavy snow 4. Prone to earthquakes because it is within a plate zone
