The Sovereign King There is none like you, O Lord; you are great, and your name is great in might. Who would not fear you, O King of the nations? For this is your due; for among all the wise ones of the nations and in all their kingdoms there is none like you...The Lord is the true God; he is the living God and the everlasting King. At his wrath the earth quakes, and the nations cannot endure his indignation. Jeremiah 10:6-7, 10

The King and His Covenant 1.The breaking of a covenant has consequences

The King and His Covenant 1.The breaking of a covenant has consequences But if you will not obey the voice of the Lord or be careful to do all his commandments... the Lord will bring you and your king whom you set over you to a nation that neither you nor your fathers have known. And there you shall serve other gods of wood and stone. And you shall be come a horror, a proverb, and a byword among all the peoples where the Lord will lead you away. Deuteronomy 28:15, 36-37

The King and His Covenant 1.The breaking of a covenant has consequences Hear the words of this covenant and do them. For I solemnly warned your fathers when I brought them up out of Egypt, warning them persistently, even to this day saying, “Obey my voice.” Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but everyone walked in the stubbornness of his evil heart. Therefore, I brought upon them all the words of this covenant which I commanded them to do but they did not. Jeremiah 11:6-8

The King and His Covenant 1.The breaking of a covenant has consequences The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately sick. Who can understand it? Jeremiah 17:9

The King and His Covenant 1.The breaking of a covenant has consequences 2.The King brings a new covenant in Christ

The King and His Covenant 1.The breaking of a covenant has consequences 2.The King brings a new covenant in Christ And Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his followers, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after they had eaten saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.” Luke 22:19-20

The King and His Covenant 1.The breaking of a covenant has consequences 2.The King brings a new covenant in Christ Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called: the Lord is our righteousness!” Jeremiah 23:5-6

Often misused Bible verse For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

The Sin of God’s People in Jeremiah My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water. Jeremiah 2:13

Let the Savior fill your Cistern!

Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. Jeremiah 9:23-24

Let the Savior fill your Cistern! God is calling his people to repent of their covenant unfaithfulness and treasure the King.
