1 Year 6 Summer Topic English Formal presentation – Youth Speak – using multimedia presentation Create a Youtube style ‘Self Help’ film – evaluate talk within the presentation. Develop skills for note taking, then interview a professional. Read non-chronological texts to gather information on the Olympics and Sporting Greats. Write a explanation text on an Olympic events. Compile a report on how to ensure the human body remains fit and healthy. Study of Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream.’ ICT Pupils to use ICT to design and ‘launch’ a new sport / athletic event. Art & DT Study sporting photography – experiment with ‘action’ pictures. Develop your own sports equipment brand, with a logo and samples of merchandise. Work in an ‘Art Room’ environment with local artist, Tony Godfrey, creating soap stone carvings. Develop ‘healthy snacks’ for athletes. Science Investigate the role of the heart and lungs during exercise, as well as the adaptations that occur in these organs following regular cardio vascular exercise. Develop knowledge of the human skeleton and how muscles work.. Study balanced diets and how these eating plans can be modified for elite athletes. Geography Plan a visit to a professional sports stadium in South Wales – reading maps, using scales and calculating the most efficient routes. Plot the position of countries from around the world who have hosted the Olympics. Find out about the economic and human impact of the Olympics today. History Study the origins of the Olympics, focus on the Greek passion for sport and health, use timelines to support findings. Explore the lives of past sporting greats, use documentaries and other film clips to support research – begin to evaluate the information found on the internet Role play as an early Olympian or a sporting great. PE Athletics - Develop general cardio vascular fitness by engaging in regular physical exercise – record progress in a training diary. Refine and adapt previously learned tactics, techniques and skills in a range of athletic activities. Games (tennis / cricket / rounders) – identify what makes a skill, idea or action successful and use this information to plan how to improve. Use specific, technical vocabulary. Music Evaluate a variety of music for use in Leavers’ Assembly. Welsh Language Read and develop knowledge of the language patterns associated with ‘Gwyliau’ / ‘Holiday.’ Role play as a travel agent and customer booking a holiday. Reading comprehension—based on the ‘Nici a Cris’ book, ‘Gwyliau.’ Write an email from a holiday destination. RE Christianity and Buddhism - Who’s responsible? – compassion, duty, morality. NURTURE EMPOWER ACHIEVE Mathematics Develop knowledge of formulae. Read scales on a variety of maps, plans and graphs. Make general statements when solving mathematical problems, based on the evidence available. Develop the use of mean, median and mode to compare data sets. Represent data collected during investigations into the effects of exercise on the body, selecting most appropriate graphs. Analyse / interpret a variety of mathematical diagrams and graphs to draw conclusions. Review of Mathematical topics in preparation for National Tests. PSHE SEAL activities - Relationships (Summer Term 1) - Changes (Summer Term 2) Preparation for the secondary school - transition activities.
