WIDE FLANGE SIGN

Contd.  Design based on LRFD  Sizes – W6x9, 6x12, 8x18, 8x24, 10x33, and 12x 45 (W 8x10, 8x15, 10x19)  Combination of Perforated fuse plate and Hinge plate  Larger sign sizes in selection tables  W beam selection tables for different clear (mounting) heights- (8’ to 22’)  Larger footings

Fuse/Hinge Plate

Beam Selection Table Clear Height 8’ (From top of footing to bottom of sign)

Contd. Clear Height 20’

Overhead Sign Structure Inspection Includes inspection of Overhead Sign & Structure above moving traffic on selected structures

Contd. INDOT plans to have more than 3,100 overhead signs inspected in the next six years. (515/yr) The new contract has the provision for maintenance and repairs. Use a new method on selected structures

Contd. Inspection over live traffic: (a new method) Save INDOT time and money since lane closures don’t have to happen (Savings up to 40% on some structures). The new method is safer than the old one. Workers used to close down lanes and create longer work zones, putting them right up against speeding traffic. The new method eliminates that and makes it safer for everyone.
