1 KENTUCKY AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION RECORD KEEPING INSTRUCTIONS & EXAMPLES 1. I can define key terminology for the AET Journal section. 2. I can accurately record AET Journal entries.

2 AET Journal The section of the Agriculture Experience Tracker in which students record entries for student invested time for (a) courses (b) AET experiences (c) FFA activities (d) community service.

3 RECORDING JOURNAL ENTRIES

4 From the home page, you can get to the Journal link by clicking on the blue box.

5 This is the Student Journal Page. From here, students can enter unpaid hours, community service activities, and FFA activities. Students can also review entries that have previously been made.

6 Experience Manager (SAE) The Experience Manager tab will allow you to access all of your AET Experiences.

7 Within the Experience Manager, students can access journal entries from this page once they have been entered.

8 Review AET Journal To review and edit any type of journal entry. Ex: Reviewing FFA competition entries to determine if a competition entry has been recorded

9 Review your Journal entries After clicking on “Review your Journal entries,” students will be directed to the Journal Entries page. Students should make sure to change the year, category, and type of entry to access a specific experience.

10 Classroom Activities Journal A way for students to record time skills learned through classroom activities. This is an optional feature of AET. Ex: Recording time spent learning about Animal Safety in agricultural class.

11 AET Experience Journal A way for students to record unpaid time invested in AET Experiences (SAEs). Ex: Recording time spent in a research SAE project such as on September 5th investing two-hours reviewing previous research.

12 Students will be directed to the Journal Entry page. The category will already be set to “Experience-related Activity.

13 AET Experience Journal Entry Example: Brandon spent 2 hours mowing and weed-eating his parents’ lawn on September 18 th, 2013 and did not receive payment. His agriculture teachers were unable to do a SAE visit during this activity.

14 AET Community Service Journal A way for students to record time invested in service events that support a student’s local community. Ex: Community projects such as roadside cleanup and community garden

15 Students will be directed to the Journal Entry page. The category will already be set to “Community Service Activity.”

16 The drop-down menu for group/ organization will bring up the options of extracurricular activities students entered on the Profile Resume. ***Keeping track of community service hours/activities is important because they are required for FFA Degrees.

17 Community Service Journal Entry Example: On August 30 th 2013, Brandon spent 3 hours helping with Children’s Sunday School at First Baptist Church. He did not receive payment for this and it is not related to any of his normal SAE activities.

18 AET FFA Officer Journal A way for students to record time invested as an elected FFA officer. Ex: Officer meetings, chapter meetings and other time obligations

19 Students will be directed to the Journal Entry page. The category will already be set to “FFA Office Activity.”

20 FFA Office Journal Entry Example: On April 15, 2014, Brandon spent 4 hours at the high school for his local FFA Officer training. The student’s officer position that was recorded in the AET Profile will be available to be selected under the “Type” drop- down menu.

21 FFA Office Journal Entry Example: The date and activity should be typed. The student’s officer position that was recorded in the AET Profile will be available to be selected under the “Type” drop-down menu. The student should select the appropriate activity level (chapter, regional, state, national, etc.). The student should record the appropriate number of outside class hours. Don’t forget to SAVE.

22 AET FFA Committee Journal A way for students to record time invested in FFA committees. Ex: Student time working within the public relations committee of the FFA chapter

23 Students will be directed to the Journal Entry page. The category will already be set to “Program of Activities Committee Activity.”

24 FFA Committee Journal Entry Example: Brandon spent 2 hours at his high school for the local Committee Workshop on September 4, 2013.

25 FFA Committee Journal Entry Example: The date and activity should be typed. The student’s committee that was recorded in the AET Profile will be available to be selected under the “Type” drop-down menu. A short description can be added. The student should select the appropriate activity level (chapter, regional, state, national, etc.).

26 AET FFA Competitions Journal A way for students to record time invested in and the level for FFA competition events. Ex: Competing in parliamentary procedures contest at the regional level and recording the time for the event of one-hour

27 Students will be directed to the Journal Entry page. The category will already be set to “FFA Competition Activity.”

28 FFA Competition Journal Entry Example: Brandon competed in his Regional Quiz Contest on May 23, 2014 at the Regional Chapter Banquet. He won first place. This activity took 1 hour of outside class time.

29 FFA Competition Journal Entry Example: Students will enter the date and type in the Activity. The type of contest and level should be selected from the drop-down menus. A short description and the number of outside class hours should also be recorded. The amount of time outside of class should also be recorded.

30 AET FFA Other Events Journal A way for students to record time invested in and the level of FFA conferences or other events. Ex: Attending regional FFA conference, state FFA leadership camp or national FFA meeting.

31 Students will be directed to the Journal Entry page. The category will already be set to “Other FFA-related Activity.”

32 Other FFA-Related Journal Entry Example: Brandon attended the National FFA Convention in Louisville on October 31 st, 2013. This activity took 5 hours.

33 Other FFA-Related Journal Entry Example: The date and activity will be entered by the student. The type of activity and level will be selected from drop- down menus. A short description and number of outside class hours will be entered by the student.

34 Review AET Journal Remember that once Journal Entries are made, students can review all entries.

35 Students can review entries that they have made for accuracy. Below are Brandon’s Journal entries.
