The Early Development of UIRA Spring 1977, Elizabeth Stevenson, appointed Elna Grahn, to chair a committee of University retired people interested in forming an organization February 15, 1978 – Bruce Bray, faculty secretary sent a memo to Faculty Council to consider the possibility of organizing an association of faculty emeriti. It was passed unanimously by Faculty Council At the next meeting Chair Elizabeth Stevenson appointed an ad hoc committee, Elna Grahn as chair, Alfred Dunn, Richard Johnston, and H. Robert Otness

17. Excerpts from letter to Prospective Retiree 18 January 1979..be assured this Retirees Association is unique. It differs from all other groups…consists of individuals of your own relative age; are ones you know and with whom you have associated for many years; sole purpose of the group is to be of service to you and to your University of Idaho. Initial dues have been set quite low: five dollars – regular member and $3 for associate member. Life membership for those who would prefer not to be bothered by annual dues – age through 64 - $50; 65- 69 - $35; starting at age 70 - $25. For associate members charges are 60 percent of the above
