2 Key points on the state of implementation of the One Health approach in Cameroon Creation of a committee to oversee the elaboration of the program on zoonoses (PM); Elaboration of a National Strategy on One Health (supervised by the PM and with 11 ministers as members); Elaboration and validation of the program on zoonoses; Signing of a convention with laboratories; Designation of One Health focal points in the key ministries;

3 One Health Meeting in the African Region, Libreville, Gabon, 12-14 November 2012 Key points on the state of implementation of the One Health approach in Cameroon Elaboration of an integrated disease surveillance and response system (SIMR) integrating International Health Regulations; Elaboration and validation of a joint National Action Plan for Health and Environment; Elaboration of the National Action Plan for emergency communication;

4 One Health Meeting in the African Region, Libreville, Gabon, 12-14 November 2012 Comments on the draft Regional Strategy Networking Networks should include Epidermio-surveillance network, laboratories, research institutes, Treatment centers etc; Communication and Sensitization should be part of the networks and this aspect should be assured by specialists in the domain with a communication and sensitization capacity. Inter-country cooperation This should be replaced by sub- regional cooperation (CEEAC, CDEAO etc; Each country should have a national contingency plan and simulation plan taking trans-boundary risks into consideration Capacity Building Training: Training modules should have a basic minimum harmonization

5 One Health Meeting in the African Region, Libreville, Gabon, 12-14 November 2012 Comments on the Regional Strategy Resource Mobilisation Each partner ministerial department will have to allocate a budgetary line to finance their shot-listed activities in the domain of One Health. Building Partnership The head of the program will be more efficient if assumed by a higher organ that can bring sector partners under its umbrella The key sector partners should include the following: Ministries in charge of the key sectors ie Livestock, Public Health, Wildlife and Environment and the Ministry in charge of territorial Administration and Civil Protection, WHO, OIE and FAO representatives in the countries should be involved.

6 One Health Meeting in the African Region, Libreville, Gabon, 12-14 November 2012 Road map for Cameroon Trickling down of the One Health concept to the peripheral level; Elaborate harmonized One Health training modules for the different levels of learning according to needs (professionals, universities, etc.) ; Capacity development of existing laboratories;

7 One Health Meeting in the African Region, Libreville, Gabon, 12-14 November 2012 Road Map cont Create a network of laboratories (Centre pasteur Cameroun, Hygiene mobile, GVFI, LANAVET, etc); Build capacity on integrated investigation and response; Institution of a surveillance system in the wildlife protected areas; Put in place the integrated alert system for information relay on zoonoses;
