1 NIQS – TRAINING ON BESMM4
FOCUS: TO UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN BESMM3 AND BESMM4 AS IT WOULD BE ASSUMED THAT THE TRAINEES ARE CONVERSANT WITH OPERATIONS OF BESMM3 Generally: BESMM3 BESMM4 Adopted the format of SMM7 of 9 columns Integration of NRM2 but retained the 9 columns Work sections retained same identity in both work sections identified separately for both Building and civil/industrial engineering building/ civil, industrial engineering e.g. D-Groundwork, E-Concrete work etc E.g. 2A-2Z; 2AA-2AB; example 2F-2H concrete. - Adopts CESMM4 as per civil/industrial Engineering works This presentation will handle part 2 (civil, industrial Engineering works and the like) section 2N – 2V, that is, structural Metalwork, miscellaneous metalwork, Timber, piles, piling Ancillaries, Roads and Paving Railway Track Construction and Tunnel. Other sections involved in part 2 will be handled by other colleagues.

2 G-Metalwork/Timberwork BESMM 4
2N- Structural Metalwork/Miscellaneous Metalwork Miscellaneous metalwork, scaffolding structural metalwork, timber, lumped together under the above heading. - Extensive integration of CESMM4 (current). Hence 2A-2Z/2AA &2AB -Structural metal work/ miscellaneous metal work together Fabrication as members (main bridges, subsidiary and framing) Materials procurement/ delivery to site taken as different item from erection for bridges frames and others Farming fabrication/ framing erection following the rules in part one(building works) Bridges bearing materials-Elastometric and propriety added(page414) Bridge bearing 6 items - Bridge bearing 6 items - Uncovered Tanks stated vol. stages - Covered Tanks ≤1m3, 1-3m3 , 3 -10m3 , m3, m3, m3, m 3 , >1,000m 3 differentiated. Tanks – stated vol.4 stages - i.e ≤ 1m3 , 1-3m3 , 3-10m3 and 10-15m3 and did not differentiate between covered and uncovered tanks.

3 2Q - TIMBER No difference in the two documents BESMM3 and BESMM4 except for minor typographical corrections G50 – Timber Q – Timber Page 204 column 2 item 4 & 7; 0.04 – 1.0m Page 416, second division items 4 & 7, 0.04 – 0.1m2 and and exceeding 0.4m respectively exceeding 0.4m2 respectively.

- As stated above; Grouped together Each of the measured work e.g Bored cast in place concrete piles, preformed, interlocking, etc has their 7or 8 number items of piles ancillaries to be measured. These excludes disposal and delays. disposal here is deemed to be included with the piling works - Measured work items pre-boring, extensions, cutting Off tops, etc including disposal, delays(ring standing), Where the cross sectional area, mass sectional modulus, etc were required;their range were provided. Where the cross sectional area, mass, sectional modulus, etc were required, they were not given or specific. Plies tests did not provide for type of test to be done Piles tests provided 5 types of tests that might be carried out (see page 433)
