4 Field of Study Requirements CI 5390 Research Seminar (Pre-req for CI 5306) EDTC 5310 Introduction to Educational Technology CI 5306 Evaluative Techniques 9 graduate hours in teaching field or approved electives (options vary each semester) CI 5306 Capstone Course

5 Student Teaching Internship Second Semester Unpaid 16 Weeks Full Time

6 Certification/Licensure Certification: Texes Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities Test -100 question multiple choice exam Texes English Language Arts and Reading 7-12 Test -100 multiple choice questions, three short answer, one essay Licensure: -Apply for licensure after student teaching and passing both exams

7 Money Total cost of TRP: $14,500 -Funded through Post 9/11 GI Bill, no loans/repayment Monthly Living Expenses: $1350 -Funded through GI Bill, savings, and substituting

8 Opportunities Market Growth: Nationally: Average employment growth (6%) through 2024. Texas: most prevalent in suburban areas, particularly San Antonio and Houston districts. Austin: growth expected to exceed national average as area population continues to grow exponentially Promotion Opportunities: Head of department (10+years) Work for district in curriculum design (varies, generally 5+years)

9 Wrap Up Why teaching: I am becoming a teacher because I want to give back to my community and I love teaching English and working with high schoolers. Assets: flexible, diligent, strong content and pedagogical knowledge Liabilities: Naturally reserved Possible Obstacles: Difficulty finding first year employment, high new teacher dropout rate.
