1 Our animals and their environment You are going to be creating a greeting card for a student from a school in Malaysia. You will also receive a card from them about the animals they live with.

2 Our class is going to learn about animals from our country, and communicate with pupils from Malaysia, to show them what sort of creatures we live with, and they will show us the sort of animals which live with them in Malaysia. What sort of animals do you associate with England?

3 1 st lesson Research You will use the internet to research the animal you would like to portray. You need to get 1 photograph of it, and 5 key facts to write inside your card. If you finish you may ask questions to ask the students in Malaysia. Save your work in a word document we will print off for next lesson.

4 2 nd lesson Drawing You need to use the photograph of the animal you have chosen to draw from. Your drawing should be about A4 size. If you finish you need to add details, and think about an object which you would relate to that animal, then draw it separately on another piece of paper. For example, a kitten may go with a ball of string.

5 Draw your animal using simple shapes to begin with….

6 Secondly- Correcting – Make corrections with your pencil and rubber to your drawing

7 Thirdly- Details –make more corrections and add the details to your work.

8 3 rd Lesson- Background Today you will design the background for your collage, so you need to think carefully about what sort of environment your animal would usually be found in. You will think about details in your animals environment. If you have chosen a pet where and when do they like to snooze? What time of day do you see a fox? Is it light outside? What is your animal doing?

10 4 th Lesson Collage your background. Today you will rip up colours from magazines, and use PVA glue to stick them onto your A3 background drawing.

17 5 th Lesson Cut out your animal and stick it onto the background you have made. Then cover your animal with more colours ripped from a magazine. The colours should be realistic. If you have time, you can also add a little paint to you collage, to add some depth.

18 Final Piece – Animal collage

19 You could now take a photograph of your collage, and save it onto a computer. Your teacher could use these photographs and get them printed onto a greeting card for us to send to the students in Malaysia. You can also write some facts about the animal for them, for example, where does the fox sleep? Finally you can ask some questions about animals in Malaysia inside the greeting card too. Goodluck!
