1 1 PST Heater Panel Design The PST heater panels are internally redundant resistive circuits printed onto a Kapton sheet with an aluminum backing. They have pads for connecting power wires and for connecting the pads to each other to form a Faraday cage. Each pad will have a 10kOhm NTC thermal sensor attached to it. Power wire connection points Connection points for Faraday cage (several)

2 2 Local Circuit Design The heater panels are paired into circuits of 2 panels each. One power triplet: 2x AWG24 (supply) + 1x AWG22 (grounded return) serves each circuit. One sensing pair: 2x AWG28 serves each panel. Power and sensing wires are soldered to connection points, strain-relieved, then routed toward the slots leading to the cryostat bore. The ground wire on the return power line is daisy-chained from one circuit to the next and connected to ground at the ID endplate. Additionally, one AWG24 wire is added to the wire bundle for grounding. Return, 0 V ground Sensor pair 3 power wires for every 2 panels 2 sensing wires for every panel In, +24 V

4 4 PST Surface Design The service wires of the heater panels are first grouped together into bundles which are routed toward slots at either end of the barrel. A bundle of power and sensing wires serves a group of 6 or 8 heater panels. A Type BII cable contains 4x AWG22, 8x AWG24 and 16x AWG28 wires. This yields maximum of 4 power triplets and 8 sensing pairs. Bundles serving 8 panels become full cables. Bundles serving 6 panels have unused channels in the cables. Unused wire positions are not filled in the wire bundles. The PST heater system requires 14 cables. 2 13 5 4 6 7 8 9 10 11 1213 14 Wire bundle routing dir’n

Up to 2 wire bundles are routed through each slot. Along with each wire bundle is an AWG24 ground wire. The CO 2 pipes are accommodated in different slots. Each of the 14 wire bundles is led to a connector at PPB1.
