 An emphasis on HS and not on Scripture  Tradition overshadows Scripture  A growing permissiveness for the sins of the flesh and spirit  Young people are starting homes and careers with no desire for Bible training.  Busy parents are driven from family altars.  We tune out songs with biblical content for shallow, emotional popular songs  Proof texting from Scripture to support any view we might have  No power for victorious living.

 IF so where is its place in our lives?  When we think we need it, it’s valuable.  When we have it handy, it’s commonplace.  Don’t stray from a Bible-teaching church because of sin and self. › You have something very valuable  The Bible affects you. It is transformational. › There is no danger in getting too much Bible › No child-proof cap is necessary

 Let the Bible affect or change you!  How does it affect us?

› It Cleans it up (9)  Start right, know and do right, keep doing it  “young man” David – needs it – for your whole life (youth till aged)  1 Jn. 1:9 › It Straightens it out (10)  “whole” silly study with part of your attention  “wander” – crooked river › It Keeps it clean (11)  Best thing, Best Place, Best Purpose  “that” – in order that – preventative  Memorize commands – not just the Lord’s Prayer

› We bless the Lord – not curse (12)  Adoration – Happy /Loud?/ - Teach me happiness – God our teacher › We preach the gospel (13)  “Lips”  “declared”

› Financial Outlook (14)  “Rejoiced” – what causes you to rejoice  Our greatest treasure – the Bible – “I have a wonderful treasure, the gift of God without measure. And so we travel together, my Bible and I” › Thought Life and Character (15)  “Meditate” – store it up and think on it.  “have respect” – from heart, shows character  Character is not worn on top, but grows from within.  Godly meditation ->Godly heart -> Godly respect

 How can I get my kids to live for God?  Meditate -> Changed heart -> Respect for God  Remember “ thou shalt love… then teach it…” your kids will not desire God unless you lead with your heart  They look at and to you – they get their idea of God from their dad.  Pray for and with them – without ceasing, in faith believing  Read God’s Word with them.  Bring them to church faithfully and cheerfully.  Respect God, God’s servants, and God’s people openly.  Great critics produce great critics.  Learn Scripture and chew on it together.  Have a Christian philosophy of education.  A school is not just a “fact factory” it’s a “heart bender.”  Put God’s work over a job.  Don’t scholarship them to do evil.

› Financial Outlook (14) › Thought Life and Character (15) › Entertainment – recreation (16)  “what I do is my business” is only one word off – it’s God’s business  “Delight” what do you love? What brings joy and happiness to your life?  Some entertainment needs a safety cap  Don’t let fun take over – Let God – Good fun can keep you from the evening service or reading your Bible through this year or teaching SS or leading Jr. Church or coming to Work Day, or having your neighbor over, or balancing your budget, or giving to Missions or going to Bible School for a year.

 You may be in the market for something to affect your life – › What are you thinking? A new car, phone, hobby, a clean house, a sundae?  I recommend the Bible.  It is Transformational  It ALONE can give you what you really need.
