2. Ken Smith and his family have operated Cool Lawn Farms Dairy near Remington, VA (in Fauquier County) since approximately 1970. The Smith family farms nearly 2000 acres in Fauquier and Culpeper Counties and milk 500 Holstein cows making their operation one of the largest dairy farms in Northern Virginia. Ken Smith was named “Distinguished Dairyman of the Year” in 2008 by the Virginia Dairyman’s Association.

3. Cool Lawn Farms, LLC entered the retail dairy business in 2010 by opening Moo Thru Ice Cream in May 2010. The ice cream sold at the Moo Thru is made with milk produced by the Smith family’s grass-fed Holsteins less than 2 miles away. Cool Lawn Farms was one of the first farms accepted into Fauquier County’s PDR Program. The Moo Thru sells a variety of ice cream products as well as regular and chocolate milk in glass bottles. In the first 7 months of operation, Moo Thru Ice Cream served over 100,000 customers. The Moo Thru is open six days a week and makes use of email, Facebook and Twitter.
