5. 8/26/2003 ©2003 Stevenson Volunteer Fire Company Vehicle Hazards / Considerations Fire Undeployed AirBags Unfired pretensioners Unmarked airbags (Volvo XC- 90) Boron and other exotic high density metals (we can’t cut them) Laminated / Double layered Glass Before cutting battery, move seats, lower windows etc. At a minimum, assume late model cars have a drivers side airbag High end cars (Mercedes, Audi, Lexus, etc), assume there is at least one of everything ‘Strange’ battery locations, wheel well, trunk, under rear seat Avoid cutting rocker panels, often used to route fuel, electric, etc. Avoid crushing airbag control units, you might set off any undeployed airbags Consider starting door removal from hinge side first, often side impact sensors are near b-pillar Strip plastic from posts to locate airbag inflators and pretensioner chambers
